Our Foundation activities are as important to us as our performances. We believe that music is the gym of the mind. It stretches the imagination, teaches empathy and understanding, and sets the stage for the next generation of innovators and success stories - across all industries in society.
The Opus 76 Music Making Minds String Orchestra Festival is a celebration of young musical talent and educational achievement. It’s aim is to celebrate and highlight the long established link between musical engagement and academic improvement.
Six schools are invited to participate at this Festival in front of an audience throughout the day. Participation involves both performing and being coached live on stage by The Opus 76 Quartet - a regionally unique aspect of this Festival. As well as participating schools, elementary students will be invited to be part of the audience at various times throughout the day. All students attending will receive gift bags, food, souvenirs and classroom resources to aid their learning for the duration of the school year.
Engaging with music is a brilliantly effective workout for the mind - and the great thing about it is you don't have to be an expert instrumentalist to experience that. Just by listening, and mentally engaging with music, you get an intellectual workout which is proven to improve critical thinking, the capacity for imagination and empathy, and independent, outside-the-box thought - those we now call "innovators." Here Ashley Stanfield, our violist, speaks to this in a little more detail.
