The Opus 76 Quartet: Sunrise Program

Mentoring young musicians in our community

The Opus 76 Quartet: Sunrise Program is a mentoring initiative by The Friends of The Opus 76 Quartet. Its aim is to provide four talented young musicians of high school age or younger from the Kansas City Metro area with:

  • Free in person quartet coaching and mentoring from members of The Opus 76 Quartet
  • Free coaching from eminent guest classical musicians from around the world
  • Two feature performances at Opus 76 Quartet concerts during the 2020/21 season

This Program, sponsored by generous donors of The Friends of the Opus 76 Quartet, will identify and nurture talented, young aspiring musicians who are interested in a career in classical music, and give successful applicants an experience of what it is like to be in a professional string quartet - from the practice room to the stage.

For the 2020/21 Season, there are four positions available in The Opus 76 Quartet: Sunrise Program : 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 ‘cello. The violinists will rotate between 1st and 2nd violin, and the quartet will perform at least two movements per concert.

All tuition will take place in accordance with contemporaneous local health guidelines and ordinances.

To apply, applicants must email an unedited video performing all 3 excerpts for their given instrument to enquiries@opus76.org.

Please take repeats where marked. Applicants are free to choose

whichever articulations best suit their musical vision, and are encouraged to “go beyond the score” - whilst remaining true to the spirit of the piece. We’re most interested in hearing your individual musical interpretation of each excerpt. In addition, applicants must write one paragraph explaining why they would appreciate the opportunities this program affords its students.

All materials must be received by October 25th, 2020, and the successful candidates will be notified no later than October 30th, 2020. Please feel free to submit any questions you may have to enquiries@opus76.org.

We’re committed to representing Kansas City at home and abroad, and promoting classical music in our community - along with all the positivity that it brings. We have historically done that by serving the disadvantaged, and we are delighted to be building on this community service by mentoring the next generation of classical musicians!
